Bloods, Test Results & Samples

Blood Tests

If you require a Blood Test, your blood will be taken by our Phlebotomy team. Please ensure you have had plenty to drink prior to your appointment, as this can make the process of taking your blood easier. Occasionally, you may be asked to have a fasting blood test. You will be informed if this is necessary by the requesting clinician. Should you have any concerns about having a blood test, please let reception know.

Test Results

Results can take between 3 to 10 days to be sent to the surgery; they then need to be viewed by a GP before results can be given out to patients.

We will contact you if a result is abnormal and / or you require treatment or further investigations.

You will not be contacted if your result is normal.

If you are registered for the NHS App or SystmOnline, you can view results on your device. Alternatively you will need to contact Reception, by telephone to discuss.

Results for those over the age of 16 can only be given to the patient directly, except in very exceptional circumstances.

Samples

Before dropping in a sample, please check with reception to see which pot or bottle type you will need. Unfortunately, we cannot accept samples in an incorrect sample pot or in your own pot.

All samples must be handed in by 12pm to allow time for processing by the hospital.
